About the event

Although the word “Chinese” is often synonymous with Mandarin/Putonghua, several hundred languages are spoken in China. Major regional languages in use include Yue (Cantonese), Xiang (Hunanese), Min, Gan, Wu, and Kejia (Hakka). The Linguistic Diversity in China event focuses on promoting mutual awareness and understanding of how diversity in the use of languages is related to the variety of cultures in China. Students and professors are invited to introduce the Chineseregional languages they speak or related to their personal backgrounds. Join us to learn more about the significance of maintaining Chinese regional languages and sustaining the unique traits of various regional cultures, as well as their signature foods!
